5 Reasons You Should Invest in SEO Services for Ecommerce

Share

Chances are, your industry is very competitive, and unfortunately, the unique qualities of your brand can easily be buried in a sea of search results. If you and your competitors offer similar products at similar price points, it can be really hard to stand out. If just reading these sentences has made you immediately start thinking of a few of your competitors who are ranking ahead of you in search results, it may be time to consider SEO services.

SEO services include content creation, technical improvements, and media placements on third party sites. Taking these measures is a cost-effective way to improve trust and credibility, offer a better user experience, and connect with an audience that’s ready to buy.

Ecommerce SEO services are an investment, but one that can pay dividends for your ecomm business, especially as time goes on.

Why are Ecommerce SEO Services Important?

No ecommerce business owner wants their store to be the internet’s best kept secret. Instead, you want your target audience to know you exist, and if they don’t, be able to find you easily and immediately recognize you as leading business in your sector. Word-of-mouth marketing isn’t going to be enough, and paid advertising alone can get expensive fast.

Chances are, your competitors are investing in SEO services, too. A proactive ecommerce SEO strategy can grow your business dramatically, all while building trust with your ideal customers and encouraging purchases.

Builds Trust

One of the many, many reasons I love SEO (hey, I chose to work in it for a reason) is seeing how all the different elements that make up the discipline interact. Building trust and authority is one piece of the puzzle. When people find your brand in search results, they see you as more credible than sites that don’t show up during a Google search. Many times, people subconsciously assume you’re ranking for a reason: you’re qualified. And people searching for products online are way more likely to spend their hard-earned money on sites that appear authoritative.

Put yourself in the shoes of a searcher for a minute. You’re very likely to click on one of the sites in the first three spots in the search results not just because it’s convenient, but because those sites are, presumably, more credible. When we see websites listed in the search results, we assume that those ecommerce stores are there for a reason, right?

And it’s true! Getting a site to rank on the first page of search results – especially the first few spots – requires content that’s well written and demonstrates a deep knowledge of the subject, as well as backlinks from other authoritative websites in the industry.

When you visit an ecommerce website with plenty of great content that’s both informative and easy to understand, you’ll be more likely to make a purchase. That’s because they’ve put time and effort into building out their site to provide users with the most relevant information they can provide with their expertise – making them more credible and trustworthy than competitors who don’t bother doing the same!

Cost Effective

My SEO team is in a constant friendly competition with the company’s paid ads team. Paid ads are great for instant gratification: you can start getting sales very quickly after starting your ad campaigns. Scaling them and getting a strong ROI often takes a lot of effort and industry knowledge, but even so, paid ads normally don’t take as long as SEO does to see a profit.

At the beginning, it often feels like this meme I made:

A meme contrasting immediate leads from paid with ecommerce SEO, which takes time.

In the long run, however, SEO tends to be much more profitable than paid! When you invest in Google, Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, and other ads, you’re paying for every single click that you get. Sure, many of those may be purchasing from your ecommerce site, and they’re likely profitable. But you’re still paying for each and every one.

With SEO, on the other hand, every click to your ecommerce site costs you nothing! Sure, it takes an initial investment to create content Google deems worthy of ranking and then build links to that content, but once you’re ranking where people can see you, all those clicks (and conversions) are free!

I’m going to use our own site as an example. Right now, we don’t run any paid ads for the search term “jewelry SEO.” But we have a page I wrote that ranks #1 in organic search results for that keyword.

A screenshot of paid ads and organic search results for the keyword jewelry SEO.

Let’s do some quick math: that page gets about 230 visitors each month. According to keyword research site SEMrush, the cost per click via paid ads for terms like SEO jewelry is $5.19.

Granted, visitors come to that page via plenty of variations on jewelry SEO, SEO jewelry, etc, but for the sake of this equation, I’m just going to use the same CPC for SEO jewelry for all of them.

So, if we were paying for every visitor to that page, it could cost us $1,193.70 every month. That’s $14,324.40 a year. If it stays up for at least 3 years? That’s $42,973.20.

You get the idea: that’s a lot of money we don’t actually have to shell out to get those qualified visitors to our website.

(Also, the $5.19 CPC? That’s the historic average. The historic high is $15. So we could be saving even more than my projection.)

*For legal reasons, I’d like to clarify that our ecommerce SEO services may not be able to generate quite enough extra revenue where you can roll around in a pool of money like Scrooge McDuck. Maybe you could if you converted it into whatever currency they use in DuckTales.

Higher Purchase Intent

In the past, we’ve run search ads and Meta ads that promote or relate to our different digital marketing services.

We’ve also built out a series of pages to rank organically for keywords relevant to these topics.

Guess which channel has outperformed the other when it comes to bringing in more qualified leads that turn into great clients who stay with us for years?

Yeah, SEO.

People who are scrolling through Facebook probably aren’t actively looking for the products you offer. They’re on social media to watch cute cat videos, find out what their ex is up to, and see what pyramid scheme their frenemy from high school has joined this time.

While great creative and copy on paid ads can certainly inspire them to make a purchase and give you another channel to grow revenue, people visiting your website from search results are more likely to make a purchase because they’re actively seeking out products like yours.

People who search are often ready to buy, which means that when you rank well organically, you’re attracting an audience with a very high purchase intent.

Better User Experience

Optimizing your website to rank better in search results also ensures your website offers a great user experience to visitors!

Think about it like this: Google exists to provide searchers with the best possible answer to any given query. Google (and other search engines like Bing) want people to find what they’re looking for.

One of the ranking factors that search engines prioritize is overall user experience. They don’t want to send them to a website where they’ll have to deal with things like slow load speed, annoying pop ups, and a URL structure that doesn’t make any sense.

Technical SEO is an important aspect of any ecommerce search engine optimization strategy. When you implement best practices and fix technical SEO issues, you’re making your site a better place for real humans, too. And real people are way more likely to make a purchase when they’re on a site that’s technically sound and easy to navigate.

Gets You More Customers

Customer acquisition is perhaps the most compelling reason for investing in ecommerce SEO services.

SEO improves your visibility in search engine results pages. When your site shows up at the top of the page for a relevant query, you’re more likely to get visitors. And the more visitors you have, the more purchases you’ll get (so long as you follow conversion optimization best practices).

The Bottom Line: SEO Services for Ecommerce Can Make You More Money

Long story short, SEO services for ecommerce sites can have a significant impact on the bottom line of your business. By optimizing your website for search engines, your ecommerce company can increase its visibility and attract more potential customers. This, in turn, can lead to increased sales and revenue.

Effective SEO services can also help ecommerce businesses identify and target specific keywords and phrases that are relevant to their products or services, further increasing their visibility and appeal to potential customers.

With more and more consumers turning to online shopping, investing in SEO services for ecommerce is becoming increasingly important to remain competitive in today’s market and drive business growth. Ultimately, by improving the visibility and accessibility of an ecommerce website, SEO services can help businesses to generate more revenue and increase profitability.
